Trying DALL-E 2 for the first time

From my archive, written 31 July 2022. These are my impressions at the time.

I put myself on the DALL-E 2 watchlist a few days ago and got accepted recently, so I used it today, the power of this AI image generator is insane, this has to have an impact on product packaging, book/movie/video game covers and content, just because of how detailed the results were, I typed in "a hand drawn futuristic city surrounded by poverty" and although it only created a futuristic city, the results were amazing, just so insanely high quality and unique, you couldn't tell them apart from an artist.

I also typed in a vibrant futuristic city, one of the results it generated looked like it could belong on an album cover, it had a green neon laser shooting out from a giant pyramid with a big ben tower with advertisements on it, a city in the distance and in front of it were identical houses, it just looked amazing. The others were of high quality too, I've spent 3 credits, the credit system is that it gives you 50 credits to begin with and 15 a month (after the month you've signed up) continuously, the incentive is to buy more credits; $15 for 115 credits, not bad given this technology, I'm very much considering putting this art on t-shirts or posters, it's just that good, it's 4 results per search, all of them look like they belong in a museum so it'd be a waste to not try and do anything with them.

Artists won't be needed as this thing improves, as sad as that is, I just see it as true, when you can generate these images in a split second for cheaper, to suit any requirement, why would you hire an artist? Music is also being slightly affected by AI, not a lot though, shit, most jobs won't be around that are now in about 50 years, it's depressing but more so exciting to see the possibilities, also scary as to how far things will go, how much things can be improved, made quicker until it isn't the same thing anymore.
