Waiting for GPT-4

From my archive, written 6 March 2023. These are my impressions at the time.

ChatGPT 4 is coming out in I think a few months, GPT 1 was trained on 7000 books, GPT 2 was trained on 40gb of text from 8 million documents, GPT 3 (The one that I used and I believe is the only one that has ever been publicly available) was trained on 45TB of text from many sources online and GPT 4 is said to be 500x more powerful than GPT 3 (although this has been debunked) but regardless, its obviously going to be a bigger step up from GPT3.

It feels like I’m seeing the early days of something potentially massive in a few decades, like the early days of the internet, or at least I hope I am, because if used in the right way, AI can do so much for us, all the tedious, dangerous and important tasks can be done by something infinitely times smarter, quicker and cheaper than any human, that is if we are willing to sacrifice a few things.
